DEMCAD asked:

In preparation for an economic collapse, I’ll show you the bugout bag (or Go-Bag) that I’m putting together. I’ll also talk about a very important financial decision that I’ll have to make.

lol - call me a sceptic, but when the Queen doesn’t seem to know what’s going on, im scared.
I blame the monarhcy for everything, so if she hasn’t got hold of this yet, im starting to wonder who has.
Im starting to realise that this “illuminati” stuff is actually TRUE. Watch “Angels and demons revealed” for the full communist story.
I dont like the royals, but im not having them murdered by Stalinists.
We in Britain fight tyranny, of any kind, even the mass genocide of the Aristocracy.

Gold and silver are th ebest investments, if you are sure of a long life. they will always be there for you.
However, people buying survival kit, will not be needing it (except for a small amount, to buy passage on boats etc.).
However, small deposits here and there, may lead someone to keeping you alive long enough for you to show them all your hiding places. This give s you chance to turn the tables.
Other than that, learning to skin and cook humans, may also be in demand.
    Ymmmmm !

  6. mikeybrumbrum Says:

You buy the gold, i will dig it up, with my shovel !

  7. elpilotoazul Says:

In my humble opinion, any money left over after you get what you need, buy silver with it. I’m sure you have heard it all before as to why everyone should own some silver, but also, keep it somewhere safe from theft. This is, of course, a long range suggestion. If you are going to need the money short term, I don’t know what to tell you.

    2 Words “BUY GOLD”

  9. mikeybrumbrum Says:

After you’ve bought all the stuff, you need to go camping to show yourself how much different reality is, and how you will never beable to carry half of what you bought.
It also teaches you about the things you FORGOT to buy !
You will soon find out what they are, if you spoend 3 days out in the hills.
Also, an elephant gun (which should sort out the bear problem). And some butchery practice, so you can eat the bears. Its looking better already.

  10. mikeybrumbrum Says:

    SHOVEL !

A shovel will not only enable you to bury your waste, but will help you to dig a massive hole, which, in the event of a govt attack, you can hide things in, to go back later.

Also, a dog would help, cus he can sniff out other peopel’s buried things.

  11. mikeybrumbrum Says:

Id rather carry the flu, than a female !

They are gona realise about equality, when they have to catch their own sqirrels !

  12. RetardedAdult Says:

I never understood all the “fire-starter” gizmos I see on survivalist sites when a few Bic lighters weigh less, last a year(s) and cost about $1each.

You’ll also need duct tape, in case you have a female accompanying you. You’ll need something to stop the nagging.

  13. bearsagainstevil Says:

too much soap , you want something to sleep in and some thing to cook in .
sleeping bag or blanket maybe a goretex bixy bag or a tarp or poncho
ditch the can opener and get a swiss army knife that is as good a tin opener as you will need and is smaller than your can opener .
normally wear outdoor clothes and walking boots then add to that , the lowest type of bug out should be stuff you carry in your pockets then expand to what you would carry in a small pack then to a big pack

sorry to post 2 comments in a row but i ran out of space to address the money question. you could always keep the money in currency for but convert it out of dollars. canadian dollars might be a good idea since its more stable and is very close to your location.

good luck with what ever you decide to do.

  15. nthanon Says:

i didn’t read all the comments but a flash light with spare batteries and a decent sized quality folding knife seem like good items for anyone. even if they dont plan on ‘bugging out’ but doing something mundane in the dark, or cutting open a stubborn package.

being in alaska i’d definitely bring sunglasses to eliminate any chance of snow blindness, one of those metal shielded emergency blankets and some salt because it makes everything taste better and its dirt cheap.

  16. CaligalinLibrary Says:

Bandaids, fishing pole, dutch oven, solar oven, food dehydrator, wind-up radio, t.p., deodorant, toothbrush, dental floss, pop-up greenhouse, homesteading books (like foxfire), candles, solar lights, dehydrated eggs, tea etc.

Buy 5 gallon paint buckets to use to grow potatoes.

  17. Michigansnowpony Says:

I can’t believe no one here is suggesting MRE’s for bug-out bags. If I was doing one, that’s what I’d use for the food part.

  18. Michigansnowpony Says:

Whiskerchild — absolutely agree about buying a house right now — if one can’t afford to pay for it in full (and be debt free), don’t buy. The down payment is only the beginning. And I don’t think anyone has a “recession/depression-proof” job these days, even healthcare workers (of which I’m one). So, I sure wouldn’t want to accrue debt right now based on the asumption I’d be able to make the payments for the duration of a mortgage — even a 5 year mortgage!

  19. Michigansnowpony Says:

As for your money dilemma. . . If you don’t feel you need additional supplies ,or there’s some left over after doing that, I’d be inclined to “perserve your wealth” by converting it to gold and/or silver. A small stash of cash at home isn’t a bad idea either, incase of future bank holidays.

  20. Michigansnowpony Says:

Reginald — have you tried dried fruit? It’s lighter, smaller to store, and lb. for lb. much more nutrient packed than canned fruit. And if you get a dehydrator (Excalibur brand recommended), you can make your own!

  21. Michigansnowpony Says:

I’m going to get chastised for this, but I do not have and am not planning on making a bug-out bag. I’m in the semi-country, we have our own manual water source, garden, supplies, self-defense, and livestock. Plus, we have family and good neighbors here. We will not leave. And that’s good because we have no other place to go. Whatever comes, this is where we’ll face it.

  22. pairunoyd Says:

p.s. i would consider a bugout ROOM. It doesnt have to be for survival mode. It can be a hedge against inflation. Higher food prices are going to really hurt a lot of people and if you can stock it w/ currently priced food items, it could save you LOTS of future dough. Id aim for 6mths to 1 yr of goodies. 20 lb bags of rice and 8 lb bags of dried beans are el cheapo - for now…

  23. pairunoyd Says:

buy ‘junk’ silver (valued for its metal content): pre-1965 (64 and earlier) dimes, quarters. Theyre usually going for around 9x to 12x face value, so a silver quarter might currently cost about $2.50 or so. A $5 roll of dimes might go for $45-$60.

  24. pairunoyd Says:
