I loved watching this show when I was younger. I was sad to see that it’s no longer in syndication. I wish the full episodes were available online, to people living outside the US.
I loved this show so much as a kid that I became an EMT myself. Watching these old clips makes me laugh at how far we’ve come!Wouldn’t trade this career for any in the world!
There were many times when they said Vfib when the EKG shows Sinus Brady or Vtac or something other than the symptoms stated. Creative license is understood, but generally, they had it right, but there were some short commings with this and most shows.
Keep in mind, this show has the destinction of changing the world. Paramedic and ALS programmes globally can be attribited to this show.
A good show which inspired me in my profession as a medic. Thing have changed but the basic theory is there, good pre hospital care. Yes there were bloopers to the medical professional, but, it was new.
We’re talking poor tissue perfusion, sustained V tach with an acute MI, loss of consciousness, then V fib, and he’s out in the field?! It’s OK, it’s a fun show that had a lot of wonderful memories for folks
Back then, there were no standing orders. It was all online medical control. Since EMS was in its infancy at the time, they made sure that any invasive procedure done by a paramedic was approved by a supervising doctor.
“Why are we not asking more questions?”
Obviously they weren’t being trained to ask for SAMPLE and OPQRST back then. I wonder when that was introduced?
He “keeled over” an hour ago? He wouldn’t have survived! This is so silly, and medically incorrect. However, I’ll suspend realism because I know how much the fans love this program. It did inspire a lot of people to become a Paramedic.
This is a great show, Very accurate to treatments still being used today. This show should be back in syndication, but noone cares about paramedics until they need them :/
Thegrizzly1, good catch. High flow o2, good ventilation would’ve been nice Did we do a recheck of the vitals? What kind of medical history does he have if any? Meds? Did he maybe od on his metoprolol that he takes for his hypertension? Why are we not asking more questions? You’re patient is sick so treat him. Stop calling the doc for every little thing. The one medic knew to push atropine for symptomatic bradycardia so why didn’t he? No more of this show for me. Good luck on your career!
yep the show is awsome!! i hope one day to become eith a ER physician, or cardioligist…
ive been studying med since i was about knee-high,im 13 now.. what i dopnt understand is why they didnt get a ambu bag started, or a trach tube connected to a ambu and pump ASAP..
Guy almost died!!
I like to go back and watch the shows and see what mistakes were done. In this one they put down an EOA. It is not indicated in this pt. In one episode a pt. was intubated using the right hand to hold the blade. For the most part they were right on with the treatment modalities of the day. I became a paramedic firefighter and nurse because of this show.

When they got there he was in perfusing VTach. This is plausible. He did not go pulseless until they arrived.
