Two pilots safely land an experimental plane on the roadway after the engine quits. Co-pilot is a professional cameraman who fitted the wing strut and interior with cameras, for what was supposed to be an uneventful ride to Sun and Fun. An excellent display of piloting at its best. No Damage to plane, property and people. … engineout01 iPhone

This was a VFR flight if they couldnt communicate with ATC because the aircraft requires immediate attention then they wont. However, after they landed they should’ve communicated with ATC and let them know what happened.

Just seen this on the news in the UK. Many congratulations to the pilot for holding it together and getting down safely. Have a virtual handshake that man!

Man! He lucked out when the engine started back up or he would have had to ditch in the drink!

I know this. My comment was a reply to someone else.

holy sht with so little altitude that was some quick thinking and pro piloting

wow amazing

Smooth landing. Not fake at all. When he shut off the engine right before touch down Im sure the pilot was just trying to prevent damage to whatever was left of his engine. Lucky bastards! They were starting to sink a little too quick. He was lucky to get that engine started again or they probably would have ended up in the trees or the drink.OUCH!

It’s not fake, you idiots.
People will seriously say “fake” to anything. It could be a video of a man sitting on a bench, reading a paper, and people would say “See how the wind is blowing? He would never be able to read peacefully like that! FAKE!”
You guys are dumb sometimes.

Student pilots practice this many times before they solo! Go take a lesson!

i don’t think he hit the wing on the pole..he hit the brakes (the camera and plane would have really shook if they hit the pole..)

thank God it wasn’t rush hour loll

You notice your wing about to hit a telephone pole after you are safe, sane, and collected…What do you do?
If you would just watch the wing hit the pole and allow yourself to lose thousands of dollars in repairs and damage PUBLIC PROPERTY, then you are a complete imbecile.

lol “dude..that was a perfect..”
probably lost oil pressure or overheat or something the way the prop stopped and engine quit like that..almost like it was seizing from heat I guess? I dunno..i’m cuirious to find out what the problem was.
Great landing, he’s very lucky - if there was cars on the road looking at the camera views I would have put it in the water as close to the shoreline I guess.. lucky guys. Great video! I’d like to see the full version after landing ect part!

Best landing video on youtube!
July 10th, 2009 at 13:35
I appreciate that you scanned the area, determined what was possible, picked your spot, and stuck to that decision. No waffling that has bit many a pilot’s behind. Excellent airmanship!

Based on the video, I don’t think he did much in the way of Vref other than just 1. “fly the plane” and 2. “get it pointed in the right direction”.
Very nice landing and exiting the runway — road!!

I flew over the area yesterday in an Aerostar 602 and thank goodness you didn’t have to land that Skyranger in that traffic. What Vref did you guys glide in at? The video looks like you’re doing 100 knots plus which appears well over L/D max for best glide in that type of aircraft.

wow lucky sob. LOL

If it was me I’ll scream like a lil bitch
July 20th, 2009 at 16:34
You land on a road and see if you care about dinging the wing.
